Route to power. Island grid, imports from New Brunswick. Firm import from New Brunswick is 300 MW across four subsea cables. The island peaked at a record 404 MW in January 2026, and load has grown 66 per cent since 2010.
How you connect
Through Maritime Electric’s standard industrial process, overseen by the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission. There is no data centre process and no data centre rate, and the island already runs close to its limit at winter peak.
New generation
Maritime Electric has applied for two 50 MW combustion turbines in Charlottetown, targeting 2028, and in March 2026 switched to used, refurbished units. The Commission began hearings in August 2026 and has not decided. Maritime Electric says demand for turbines from electrification and data centre building is making them harder to get.
