Getting power in New Brunswick

Open but non-committal: the utility says it can handle a specific 190 MW request but wants flexible, interruptible load, not firm baseload commitments.

The full New Brunswick record, with the route to power, the binding constraint and every dated policy event.

Sources

A 120-hectare Crown-land parcel in Spruce Lake Industrial Park. Total draw of 390 MW, split roughly 200 MW from the grid and 190 MW from an on-site VoltaGrid gas plant. Registered for environmental impact assessment and under review between April and June 2026; final approval is still pending and construction has not started. Reporting in July 2026 on the assessment material puts annual consumption at about 3.4 TWh and projected direct emissions at roughly 755,187 tonnes of CO2e a year, about 6.6 per cent of New Brunswick's 2023 total, which would place the project among the province's largest emitters. The companies state construction is planned to begin in 2026 with operation in 2028; those are company statements. Related: the Beacon AI Centers projects in Alberta, same proponent family.
