Getting power in Manitoba

Closed to unsolicited large load: government now picks which projects get power, and it has already said no to at least one data centre.

The full Manitoba record, with the route to power, the binding constraint and every dated policy event.

Sources

Rejected by the Manitoba government on 4 June 2026 by Premier Kinew. The site is roughly 350 acres, about 10 miles south of Winnipeg. Reported capacity conflicts widely across sources, from 100 to 500 MW; 100 MW is shown as the most conservative independently sourced figure. The 2,000 MW figure cited elsewhere is the substation's available capacity, not a committed project size.
