Slate owns 800 acres of Hamilton waterfront and is proposing an 88-hectare campus. Hamilton’s Committee of Adjustment unanimously denied a land-severance application on 4 June 2026, and council voted 15-1 to advance a citywide moratorium. The severance denial blocks this particular approval path rather than the project outright, so it is held at announced.
